The cumin seeds are mainly used as spice. Their flavour resembles that of the caraway seed but is more pronounced. Used in soups, breads, cheeses, it is a basic ingredient for making commercial curry powder. It is preferable to start cultivating cumin plants in a greenhouse because it requires warm conditions. (Annual)
Semi-hardy annual. Sow in peat pots. Plant outside when night temperatures are above 13° C. Plant close together so the weak-stemmed plants support each other. Water when the weather is dry. Harvest when seedpods turn brown; rub pods together to release the seeds.
