Basil, fresh or dried, is valuable for seasoning salads, stews, soups, all kinds of tomato dishes, etc. As well, the plant deters pests, such as aphids and asparagus beetles, from the garden and, when planted close to tomatoes, it actually improves their taste!
A simple alternative to growing herbs without worrying about handling small seeds is to use seed discs.
Choose a container larger than the disc (8 cm dia.), Fill it with potting soil, line the surface to level and place the seed disc there. Then cover with a thin layer of vermiculite or potting soil and water thoroughly. It is recommended to place the container under an artificial light and to use a heating mat.
