Apium graveolens rapaceum
Balena has a round, very white and smooth root. Good tolerance to bolting. It will keep very well for a long period, in cold storage.
CULTURAL PRACTICES: Grow as you would celery in a rich well- drained soil. The soil should be warm (over 17⁰ C) and maintained adequately moist. A lack of boron in the soil will cause heart rot and hollow roots. Pick when at least 10 to 15 cm in diameter, between the end of the summer into the fall. Good for winter storage in a cool basement.
